The Buck's Story

As you may have noticed, the buck used in our logo has some unusual characteristics. His antlers are asymmetrical and there are missing tines. The Buck’s story is as follows…

November 26th, 2002: It was a frigid, icy morning in Stephens County Texas. One of our founders, along with his Dad, whose name was David, sat still in the twilight of the pre-dawn waiting patiently for first light. They were positioned on the crest of a hill in thick brush with just a few possible openings for a shot.
At first light there were faint sounds of frantic hooves in the fallen leaves. David raised his rifle and watched as two large doe came running through the heavy brush. Our Co-founder describes what happened next:
“My Dad and I watched the two doe run towards our position and then veer sharply to our right. We knew they were being chased. Immediately after the two doe left our field of vision, I heard the click of the safety on my Dad’s rifle followed by him whispering, “There’s a buck”. I glanced slightly to the left of the opening in front of us and at around 100 yards away, a large buck came crashing through the thick brush in pursuit of the two doe. A split second later, the report of the rifle rang out through the still morning air. The buck’s knees buckled from the impact of the bullet as he jolted to our right and out of sight. We were both surging with adrenaline and at a loss for words. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, we proceeded to the spot where the shot had occurred. There was a solid trail of lung blood and we knew that the buck was hit hard. We were 40 yards into the blood trail when we looked up and spotted the fallen buck on his side with his right main beam sticking up above the brush. As we approached, there was no ground shrinkage. The buck's antlers only grew larger. My Dad and I celebrated with high fives and took our time admiring the brute. That was one of the greatest memories that I shared with my Dad and I will never forget that morning."
The buck has a total of 11 points. He has a rounded off brow tine and a broken G3 on the right side, which was the result of what was undoubtedly an epic fight with another bruiser. The buck was a warrior and the distinct asymmetrical characteristics of his antlers attest to his story.
David passed away in 2016, this was the largest buck that he took during his hunting career. At the inception of Indomitus, his son felt that there would be no better set of antlers to represent the brand.
“Indomitus represents the true hunting community, the ones who step out of their comfort zone, out of their busy day to day lives and immerse themselves in the wild. They put in the time, work and money in the hopes of earning the buck of a lifetime. It is only them that know the pain of a missed opportunity or the adrenaline rush right after they send the bullet or release the arrow into the vitals of a big game animal.  I guarantee you that there are many hunters who are reading this that have their own 'Indomitus Buck story' and they know exactly how my Dad and I felt the morning he earned the Indomitus buck."
